Goal of this unit: give directions in clear English, describe where things are using prepositions of place, write a short email and a 100-word presentation about your country. Tested in Test 1 (matching), Test 2 (prepositions), Test 3 (picture fill-in), Test 5 (note-making from a travel dialogue), and Test 14 (~100-word letter / description).

📐 Prepositions of place இடம்

  • behind · in front of · next to · between · opposite
  • on the left · on the right · at the end of
  • in = inside (in the room) · on = surface or line (on the road, on Main Street)
  • at = a point (at the bus stop, at the corner)
The cafe is between the bank and the temple. The post office is opposite the school. The library is at the end of the road.

📐 Imperatives — directions கட்டளை

  • Verb first, no subject.
  • Walk along Main Street.
  • Turn left / right at the traffic lights.
  • Go straight for 200 metres.
  • Take the second right.
  • Cross the bridge. Stop at the temple.
  • "You will pass…" / "You will see…" → polite tone.

🐝 Collective nouns — animals

  • a herd of cattle / elephants

📦 Collective nouns — things

  • a fleet of ships
  • a bunch of bananas / flowers / keys

✍️ Writing — official word counts

  • Notice / message (Test 6): 40–50 words. Headline + passive verb + place / date / time + description + contact + signature.
  • Short paragraph (Test 8): 50–60 words. Topic sentence + 3 concrete details + closing.
  • Letter / data description (Test 14): ~100 words. Address top-right, "Dear ...", three paragraphs, "Love / Yours sincerely + name".
  • Essay / article / speech (Test 16): ~200 words. Hook + one paragraph per bullet + warm closing.
  • Email (this unit): From / To / Subject → Dear ... → arrival + feeling → news → reassurance → question → Love, name.
